- Eudora Welty
The job skills necessary for the myriad employment opportunities in the film industry are as a diverse as the children in our program. From screenwriting to directing, makeup to wardrobe and set design, catering, acting, editing, marketing, distribution, music composition, and the various trades there is something for everyone. Our film program introduces our young learners to all that film has to offer, giving them a strong appreciation and foundation in every element of film and encouraging them to choose one or more professions they feel most drawn to. We then provide mentorship and hands-on experience in the field, uncovering and developing their aptitude for each skill. There is no better market in the world to launch our program dedicated to preparing our young people for job opportunities in the film business. According to the Los Angeles Film Society, Louisiana was the #1 market for film in the United States this past year, even surpassing Hollywood.
Only three years ago, these outside productions imported nearly all of their cast and crew, as there were few qualified professionals locally who could fill the jobs necessary. That is changing quickly and a significantly higher percentage of these jobs are being filled by Louisianans. We look forward to seeing our future program graduates working successfully on crews and productions after they have graduated from our program.
What you can do to help:
We strive to offer the most engaging, fun-filled, and inspiring film education program possible. To do so requires quality equipment, software, and guest instructors as well as opportunities for on-set visits to productions. Gifting our program with the tools and software to allow us to provide our teams of participants use of good cameras and everything they'll need to showcase what they are learning is a huge way you can support our program. For those of you professionals in the film industry who are passionate about what you do, we would love to have you share your experiences with our kids and visit as a guest lecturer. Please email or call us at 504-264-5403 to discuss participating in enriching our kids' learning experience about film by volunteering to teach.
